Only one team has officially secured its place in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023 and that is the hosts Pakistan.
On the other hand, Bangladesh have one step in the Super Four after their 89-run win against Afghanistan on Sunday in Lahore.
The big-margin victory boosted Bangladesh's run rate and put them in a comfortable position where they just await the result of Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka to confirm their place in the next round officially.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have also almost qualified for the next round as they beat Bangladesh in their Asia Cup opener by five wickets and got off a great start.
But, the only way they can still not qualify for the next round is if Afghanistan beat them by a big margin.
“Bangladesh have qualified for the Super Four stage. For Afghanistan to qualify, they will need to beat Sri Lanka by approximately 70 runs or chase in approximately 36 overs” Cricket Statistian Mazher Arshad tweeted.
Qualification scenarios:
Bangladesh — Qualified (official announcement awaits)
Afghanistan — Big margin victory against Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka — A win or a low-margin defeat against Afghanistan
