The Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is set to be fined 75 percent of her match fee and will be handed four demerit points, reported Cricbuzz on Sunday.
Kaur, during the third ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Saturday (July 22), breached the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct.
"For the on-field incident (smashing the wicket) she will be fined 50 percent of her match fee while for the way she represented herself her in the presentation ceremony, she will be fined 25 percent of her match fee," the official told Cricbuzz.
The Indian captain will receive three demerit points for her unacceptable on-field actions and another demerit point for throwing false accusations at the match’s umpire during the post-match ceremony.
In the 33rd over of Nahida Akter, she was given LBW after she misjudged a sweep attempt. The Indian captain showed dissent at umpire Tanvir Ahmed's decision and also thrashed the stumps with her bat.
Kaur did not stop at crushing the stumps, she went on and criticised umpiring standards in Bangladesh during the post-match presentation ceremony.
"I think (there is) a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening, we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly," she reiterated.
Additonally, when the end-of-series photograph with both teams was being taken, Harmanpreet shouted "bring the umpires too", suggesting they were a part of the Bangladesh team.
It must be noted that Kaur's frustration was caught on camera which is a breach of ICC's article 2.2 which includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.
For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to advertising.
