KARACHI: Pakistan’s top Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is set to be back in action next month for World Athletics Championship in Hungary.

An official of Athletics Federation of Pakistan has confirmed that Arshad will be participating in the event to be played in Budapest from 19th to 27th August.

Arshad had earlier missed Asian Athletics Championship due to an injury which he sustained during National Games in Quetta.

Muhammad Zafar of AFP told Geo that Arshad has regained fitness and has started training for upcoming events.

“Arshad Nadeem will be participating in World Athletics as he has qualified for participation in World Athletics,” he told Geo.

For direct entry into World Athletics, athletes were required to meet entry standard during July 31st 2022 to July 30th 2023.

For Javelin Throw, the entry standard is a throw of 85.20m. Arshad threw the record 90.18m to win Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games on August 7th 2022.

Arshad is currently ranked 5 in the world in Javelin throw rankings and is undoubtedly, one of the finest athletes produced by the country.

Athletics Federation of Pakistan is hopeful of a good show by Arshad who also won the Gold medal for country in Islamic Solidarity Games last year.

He had finished 5th in last year’s World Athletics Championship played at Oregon but seeing his improved performance, one can expect him to be a strong medal contender for Pakistan in the event.

The first round of Javelin Throw in World Athletics Championship 2023 will be played on 25th with final scheduled to be played on 27th.
