ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Monday deferred the approval of the National Sports Policy for 2022-27 due to the absence of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister Ehsanur Rehman Mazari, who is on Eid Holidays in his native Town Kashmore.
“As the Minister has yet to return from Kashmore from Eid holidays, the National Sports Policy approval has been deferred. Hopefully, the policy will be presented again in the cabinet meeting to be held next week,” a highly placed source said.
The salient features of the Sports Policy are to develop and promote sports in Pakistan by encouraging sportspersons, organising sports tournaments, providing coaching, and improve, sports facilities and all levels in order to achieve excellence in sports at regional and global levels.
It also includes effectively regulating sports bodies, federations, clubs and teams through transparent and streamlined governance so as to depoliticise sports administration and selection, create greater functional accountability and coordination amongst all provincial and regional stakeholders/interested parties and restructuring the sports governance system in the country
Promoting sports at the grassroots level with special focus on less developed areas, preparing players for better performance in national and international competitions, promoting sports tourism, organising international sports events in Pakistan, organising Sports Leagues in different sports disciplines with collaboration of the private sector and Sport Diplomacy through strengthening international collaboration are also part of the policy.
