West Indies will miss the ICC World Cup for the first time in their history after losing to Scotland during the mega event’s qualifier on Saturday.

Since Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka already have six points, West Indies, who have zero points after three matches, won’t be able to catch them in their remaining two games.

Scotland won the match by seven wickets, with 39 balls remaining, after easily chasing down a modest target of 182 runs.

Brandon McMullen (69 off 106) and Matthew Cross (unbeaten 74 off 107) scored fifties for the winning side.

McMullen also bagged figures of 3-32 with the ball and was declared player of the match.

"Just tried to play my game, rebuild and give my team the best chance of winning the game," McMullen said after the match.

"He [Cross] was phenomenal today, took a lot of pressure off us. Awesome to see him back in form. That was pretty good, I was chuffed with that one. My plan is to play straight, glad that it came off," he added.

West Indies, who had never failed to qualify for a Cricket World Cup before, won the first two editions of the tournament.

Oman, who are the bottom of the points table, are already out of the race for the mega event with three defeats in as many matches.

The competition for the last two spots for the Cricket World Cup is now between four teams – Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Scotland and the Netherlands.

It must be noted that Zimbabwe, West Indies and the Netherlands qualified for Super Six from Group A, while Sri Lanka, Oman and Scotland progressed from Group B.

All points won against opponents that qualified from the group stage were carried forward. In the Super Six each team will play the sides they did not meet in the group stage and the top two will book their spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka took four points to the Super Six, while Scotland and the Netherlands bagged two points each. West Indies and Oman ended up with zero points.
