Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has denied the possibility of signing the 2018 Fifa World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe saying he only has eyes for Real Madrid.
Mbappe’s future has been a subject of discussion in the football world ever since the Frenchman confirmed that he will not stay at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) beyond 2024.
There were reports of Man City entering the race to sign the 24-year-old but Pep, who has praised Mbappe quite several times, was not shy to deny that he will not sign him.
Speaking at the Puma Legends Trophy event, Guardiola said: “We will not sign Kylian Mbappe, he’s not joining Man City — all of you know where he wants to go.”
It must be noted that Mbappe has already denied all the rumours of linking him to another club saying he has never asked the French club to sell him.
The French star said that he is happy to play for PSG next season but will not extend his contract with the Ligue 1 champions.
Meanwhile, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG have made its stance very clear. They have informed the player that it’s either he renews or he will be sold this year as the French club does not want to lose their franchise player for free.
"I didn't ask either to be sold or to go to Real Madrid," Mbappe told Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I just confirmed that I don't want to activate the extra year foreseen in the contract. We have never talked about a renewal with PSG, but I'm happy to stay here next season."
Real Madrid, who have been trying to sign Mbappe ever since he was playing for Monaco, will once try to go all-out for the Frenchman in the ongoing transfer window.
As per the sources, Mbappe only wants to sign for Los Blancos and PSG, who blocked his move to the Spanish Capital in the summer of 2021, will not stand in his way.
