Pakistan's former Test cricketer Sikander Bakht believes that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should now focus on their cricket team post World Test Champion final defeat against Australia.

Speaking to GeoSuper.tv on Monday, Bakht, a cricketer-turned-analyst, said childish statements after a big defeat will not work for India who claim to be the world's top team.

"They played poor cricket on the last day," said Bakht. "They could have saved the match with seven wickets in hand. But their batters, including the likes of Virat Kohli, played reckless shots to get out. There was no need to go for those outside off-stump deliveries," the former cricketer added.

After a 209-run defeat, Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, made excuses by blaming the time, venue and format for the final contest.

"Why after the IPL final? Why cannot it be March? June is not the only month we should play the final," said Sharma who scored just 58 runs during the final.

"It can be played any time of the year and anywhere in the world, not just in England, it can be played anywhere in the world.

"A three-match series would be nice but it's about finding that window, where it can fit in. An event like this you work hard for two years and then you only have one shot at it," he added.

In response to Sharma's statement, Bakht said: "They are now making childish statements after the defeat. How can you blame time and venue when things were in your hand and you completely lost them. These excuses have only made fun of them.

"I think there was another mistake which must be highlighted by the BCCI. Australia shouldn't have taken slips as their batters mostly got out in there. How can Australia do this to a top team? These statements are made in school or gully cricket," the analyst taunted.

The veteran of 26 Tests and 27 ODIs also highlighted that India haven't won a single ICC trophy in last 10 years. "You talk about ruling cricket but you haven't managed to win a single ICC trophy. This is your cricket and this is where you are standing right now," he criticised.

"You tried to finish our cricket but your own cricket has come to a point where you are not winning anything. We won trophies even when there was no cricket in our country,

"It's high time to finish your lust to rule cricket. Focus on your cricket team by putting politics aside. It will benefit you in a longer run," he suggested.
