India's young opening batter Shubman Gill has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for questioning the umpire's decision on social media.

Taking to Twitter following a controversial decision by the umpire which sent him out in the first innings of the ICC World Test Championship final at The Oval, Gill questioned the dismissal.

Television umpire Richard Kettleborough adjudged that a catch by Cameron Green to remove Gill had been taken cleanly.

Apart from a 100 percent fine on his match fee, Gill will have to pay an additional 15 percent for breaching article 2.7 which relates to public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.

Meanwhile, the whole Indian team was fined 100 percent of their match fees for their slow over rate. It means Indian players lost their complete match fee for the final contest. Australia were also fined 80 percent of their match fees.

"India were ruled to be five overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, while Australia were found to be four overs short. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the ICC stated.

India lost to Australia by 209 to lose another chance of getting their hands on the ICC Test mace. In 2021, India lost to New Zealand by eight wickets in the final of World Test Championship.
