Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi's owner Javed Afridi has pitched the idea of forming a global body to control franchise cricket.

In his recent statement, Afridi said due to rapidly growing market of franchise cricket leagues, there is a need to control it with a united effort.

"Due to increase in number of franchise cricket leagues around the world, a Global Council of Franchise Cricket Leagues will make functioning easy," he said.

"This body will be able to support and guide cricket leagues around the world. There is a need to consider this option and improve the governance in this growing market," he added.

The PSL season two champion owner also tweeted his suggestion. "Global Council of Franchise Cricket Leagues," he wrote.

India started first-ever proper franchise cricket league named Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. After that different countries tried and executed this franchise cricket model.

Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is considered most popular league after IPL, was played for the first time in 2016.

By far, almost every Test playing country has their cricket league. Australia have Big Bash League (BBL), England have The Hundred, South Africa have SA20, West Indies have Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Bangladesh have Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sri Lanka have Lanka Premier League (LPL), and Zimbabwe is set to host T10 league this year. Only New Zealand, Afghanistan and Ireland don't have any active high-class franchise tournament as of yet.

On the other hand, UAE have also hosted franchise leagues such as International League T20 (ILT20) and T10 League.
