Pakistan's former test cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman has been appointed as head coach of the Germany cricket team, the Deutsche Cricket Board (DCB) announced on Monday.

Atiq will coach the German team for the 2024 T20 World Cup qualifiers.

"We are delighted to welcome Atiq-uz-Zaman as head coach of the men's national team. The national team is in the middle of preparing for this summer's ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Scotland. The first two places will be played there, which entitle you to take part directly in the T20 World Championship in 2024," the DCB said in a statement.

"His involvement as a coach and player in elite cricket will be an asset to our players and coaching staff and will enable us to further our current national and under-19 squads as well as the general talent development in German cricket," it added.

It is worth mentioning here that Atiq has represented Pakistan in one Test and three ODIs.

However, the former wicket-keeper batter has made a career out of coaching.

Whilst earning his Level 4 qualification, he also serves as a batting scout for the England and England Lions men's national teams.

Apart from that he has also served as Head of Fielding and Wicket-keeping Coach at the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) High Performance Centre in Lahore.

The DCB said that Atiq's "engagement will focus on the strategic planning, implementation and oversight of development programs as part of the elite high performance process."
