KARACHI: Fahad Mian Chunnu’s 88-run knock, coupled with Qadir Kashmiri’s match figures of 3/47, led Clifton Popular to thump Malir Malangs and win the Karachi Tape Ball Premier League Season 4 here at the Moin Khan Academy on Sunday.
Popular’s captain Asad Shah’s decision to bat first bore fruit as his side amassed a formidable total 91/4 in the first innings, with Fahad leading the charge.
The opening batter smashed three fours and four sixes on his way to a 15-ball 39, while his partner Asad played a supportive role with a 17-ball 29, comprised of three fours and a six.
For the Malangs, Hazrat Umar and M Adil Qadeer could pick up a wicket apiece in the first innings.
In response, the Malangs could score 55/4 against a disciplined Popular’s bowling attack.
Ali Imran was the standout bowler for the Popular in the first innings, taking two wickets for just three runs in one over, while Qadir Kashmiri and Asif Pathan chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Opener Umar Bajwa remained the top-scorer for the Popular in the first innings with his 12-ball 20, while the rest made meagre contributions.
Leading by 36 runs, the Popular registered a massive total of 130/3 on the board, thanks to Fahad’s belligerent half-century.
He smashed five fours and 10 sixes on his way to a 23-ball 88. The next-best contribution came from middle-order batter Hassan Qadeer, who made 12 off five.
Chasing a daunting 167-run target, the Malangs could only manage 84/3 in their allotted six overs and thus succumbed to an 82-run defeat.
Top-order batter Mimran Khan remained the top-scorer for the Malangs with 43 off 19 deliveries, laced with five fours and three sixes.
Qadir Kashmiri was the standout bowler for the Popular in the second innings, picking up two wickets for 28 runs in his two overs.
For his match-winning knock, Popular’s Fahad Mian Chunnu was adjudged the player of the match in the KTPL Season 4 final.
