Former England spinner Graeme Swann is ready to take on the Indian cricket team’s coaching job as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently searching for Rahul Dravid’s replacement who will leave after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Swann coached Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 where they reached the playoffs. RCB lost the first seven of their eight matches but then went on a six-match win streak which earned them a place in the playoffs.
Prominent names like Stephen Fleming, Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer and others have been linked to the job but no name has been finalised yet as the search continues.
Swann stated that he would accept BCCI’s offer to coach India “in a heartbeat” if they ask him to become the Blues’ head coach.
“If India asked me to become their coach, I'd do it in a heartbeat! I love this place,” Swann told Sports Tak.
He also talked about former England coach Andy Flower who confirmed that he will not be applying for India’s head coach job saying that India would’ve been lucky to work with him.
“Andy was an incredible coach for England when I played. He took us to no.1 in the world, and was the best coach I've played under. India would be lucky to have him,” Swann said.
“India... you've got such a strong squad, such a highly talented players, that whoever gets the job... it will be the biggest coaching job in world cricket these days. Whoever gets it, hope they bringing success because they are really under the microscope.”
Earlier, the BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, denied contacting any former Australian cricketer for the position of head coach for the national team earlier today, a day after Ricky Ponting claimed to have had a one-to-one discussion regarding the Indian Cricket Team’s head coach position with board officials at IPL 2024.
