Former South African pacer Dale Steyn talked about the massive impact of former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni saying that he is “glued” to his TV screen whenever the 42-year-old is on the crease.
Dhoni, 42, is one of the most popular cricketers of all time due to his unmatched success as a skipper with, both, the Indian cricket team and CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhoni led India to all three ICC trophies — T20, 50-over World Cup and Champions Trophy — and he guided CSK to record five IPL triumphs, which is why he is loved dearly by almost everyone in India.
The wicketkeeper-batter has not had the opportunity to bat for a longer time period in the ongoing IPL 2024 as he was demoted to a lower batting order but despite that, he has given his fans much to cheer.
In his most recent outing, where he smashed 20 runs off just four deliveries against Mumbai Indians, he took their skipper Hardik Pandya to the cleaners and proved that he has still got it despite nearing retirement.
Similarly, just like everyone, Steyn is a big fan of the former Indian skipper who despite not watching TV a lot. He added that his girlfriend says that their TV screen is broken because he is always watching cricket.
“Not only has it engulfed the IPL. That’s engulfed many South Africa and myself, to be honest with you, I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I seem to be glued to the seat when the IPL is on my girlfriend says that my TV is broken, it’s stuck on cricket right now IPL and watching MS the other night. That’s exactly what we want to do,” Steyn said on Jio Cinema.
He then added that it would be great if Dhoni gets to bat in the middle order sometime so that the fans, including him, could get to see more of him.
“You know, I’ve been on the receiving end of it before. I’ve watched it from a fan’s point of view, I loved it. I mean, I am in a much better mood because of what I’ve just seen. So, can we get more of MS Dhoni out in the middle? That would be great,” he added.
