The Pakistan Cricket Board will announce the names of coaches for the national men’s side’s white-ball and red-ball cricket before the end of this month.
According to Press Trust of India, the PCB has received applications from a couple of reputed coaches as well apart from South Africa's Gary Kirsten and Australia's Jason Gillispie.
"The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that the long-term appointments of coaches will be done through a due process and all commitments would be met by the board," a PCB official was quoted as saying.
Kirsten and Gillespie have been finalised by the PCB for the role of white-ball and red-ball head coach, respectively, Geo News had reported earlier this month.
"Even in Kirsten and Gillispie's case though, the board has held direct negotiations with them, and they remain top candidates to be appointed head coaches, they were also told to apply through due process by the deadline," the source added.
"The PCB chief doesn't want names disclosed at any stage, and names would only be revealed once announcements are made," the source added.
Kirsten, who is currently a part of the Gujarat Titans coaching staff during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, was the head coach of Indian team that lifted the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 title.
Meanwhile, Gillespie recently resigned from his role as South Australia and Adelaide Strikers men's head coach. In 2014 and 2015, he had previously led Yorkshire to consecutive division one titles.
It must be noted Pakistan's previous coaching staff, which included Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick, who were transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, left their respective positions in January this year after a change in their portfolios in November 2023.
In April 2023, Arthur was named Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team while Bradburn was roped in as head coach. Former South Africa cricketer Puttick worked as batting coach since April 2023.
The decision was taken amicably between all the parties involved, according to PCB.
For the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, Azhar Mahmood is the head coach of the Pakistan team.
