Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag hinted at an internal investigation over the increasing number of injuries to players which has made things difficult for the Dutchman.

Ten Hag, who joined the club in 2022, has been unable to field his strongest playing XI courtesy of never-ending injuries to players and things got worse this week when Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof joined the growing injury list.

As United charge up to face Chelsea in a Premier League match on Thursday, Ten Hag addressed a press conference where he was asked the reason behind injuries to which he replied that the club would work on it “internally”.

”We have an idea but we will work on that internally and deal with it,” Ten Hag said on Wednesday. “There are no more issues, we don't need any,” said Ten Hag. “In the front line and midfield we are okay and we have options there, but in the back line, we have a lack of options.

“The good thing is back that Rapha Varane and Jonny Evans are in training this afternoon. Yesterday Harry Maguire was back in training.”

The Dutchman believed that the injuries to players are the result of a number of matches clubs have to play as it is also happening to other Premier League teams.

'You can't prevent it, it's not only us who've had this,” he added. “The standards of the Premier League from an intensity perspective are so high, the overload of the schedule, international football is so huge, and we have internationals in our squad.

“Man City, Liverpool and Newcastle have problems, many other teams. We don't train because we recover then you go up to the next game,” he added.

With 29 matches played this season, Man Utd sit in sixth position with 48 points, nine less than fourth-placed Aston Villa who have 59 points from 30 matches.

The Red Devils are also pursuing FA Cup glory, they will take on Coventry City in the semi-final after defeating Liverpool in a thrilling quarter-final which saw them winning 4-3 after extra time.
