KARACHI: Multan Sultans' leg-spinner Usama Mir has etched his name into the record books of Pakistan Super League (PSL) by setting a new record in the 30th game of the ongoing season nine against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.
The seasoned spinner has emerged as the highest wicket-taker in a single edition among spin bowlers after he bowled out Mohammad Wasim Jr.
With an outstanding performance in PSL 9, Usama has claimed a staggering 21 wickets so far, surpassing the previous record held by Rashid Khan, who secured 20 wickets in the last season while playing for Lahore Qalandars.
On the other hand, notable bowlers such as Hasan Ali, Abbas Afridi, and Ehsanullah have left their mark with impressive wicket-taking displays in the previous season.
Hasan's haul of 25 wickets in 2019 is the highest followed by Afridi's 23 and Ehsanullah's 22 in 2023.
Notably, the list of top wicket-takers features solely fast bowlers, with Faheem Ashraf at fourth where he took 21 wickets in the 2019 edition.
It must be noted that The playoffs schedule of the PSL 9 has also been confirmed. Sultans will now play Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier 1 on March 14 while Gladiators play Islamabad United in the Eliminator on March 15.
Sultans and Zalmi have two chances of qualifying for the PSL 9 final after finishing at the top two of the points table since the loser of Qualifier 1 will take on the winner of Eliminator on March 16.
