Manchester City’s head coach Pep Guardiola weighed in on his rival Jurgen Klopp’s decision to call time on his Liverpool career after nine years with The Reds.
Guardiola joined Man City in 2016 and he has, since then, been competing with Klopp in the Premier League. The two defined an era in English top-flight football.
When Klopp announced his decision to quit Liverpool, Guardiola admitted that it would be nearly impossible to remember his time at Man City without mentioning Klopp’s Liverpool.
Guardiola took a break from coaching after leaving Barcelona in 2012 and the Spaniard had similar thoughts on Klopp saying that a rest is good.
“He will be back I’m pretty sure,” Guardiola said while talking to TNT Sports. “Where I don’t know, only he knows it. He will rest a little bit and relax and take the perspective because (when you are playing) every third day season after season, it’s difficult to take a perspective of what I’m doing, who we are, what I want in life.
"Sometimes to take a break is really good. He’s going to decide his best.”
Man City currently sit second on the PL points table with 52 points, just two less than Liverpool with a game in hand.
The Reds are having an injury crisis but despite their constant off-the-field battles, they have been playing up to the mark in the league.
Earlier in January, Klopp announced he was leaving Liverpool saying he was running out of energy.
“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it,” Klopp was quoted as saying by liverpoolfc.com.
“It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”
Under Klopp's stewardship, Liverpool bagged the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup, as well as the FA Community Shield.
