UFC President Dana White has revealed that Justin Gaethje will compete against Max Holloway for the BMF title at UFC 300, and Jim Miller will face Bobby Green on the card.
The historic event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 14. It was previously confirmed that Zhang Weili would challenge Yan Xiaonan for the women's strawweight title, and now an additional championship bout has been added.
The bout will be a five-round contest held in the lightweight division. Two seasoned fighters, crowd favourite Jim Miller and Bobby Green, will also go head-to-head in Vegas as the UFC celebrates its triple century of events on Saturday, April 14.
Gaethje is expected to face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt in the future, but this matchup will be postponed until at least the summer due to the reigning champion's current injury. These new fights have been added to a card already featuring Zhang Weili versus Yan Xiaonan for the women's strawweight title.
Gaethje secured the BMF belt by defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 291 in July last year, while Holloway emerged victorious against Chan Sung Jung in his most recent bout. Miller, who competed just last weekend and triumphed over Gabriel Benitez at UFC Vegas 84, will now face Green in the upcoming event.
White announced the fights for UFC 300 on social media: “Jim Miller - 40 years old - he’s the all-time leader in UFC wins at 26, he’s got the most UFC finishes in lightweight history at 16 and he’s tied for most submissions in UFC lightweight history with Charles Oliveira at 10.
“Now, he’s attempting to break into the top 15 in one of the nastiest divisions in the sport. He will be facing the guy who fights anyone, anytime, anywhere, Bobby Green.
“Bobby hasn’t seen a scorecard in two years - his fights do not go the distance and he’s got 20 finishes. His style is in your face, moving forward, pushing the action the entire time. This fight has been scheduled three times, but this is the time that matters.”
White says the fight between Gaethje and Holloway is one of the best ways to discover who is currently the ‘baddest’ in their sport.
“[They have] 50 wins between them, 34 finishes, two of the best strikers in the sport, two of the most durable fighters in the sport, two of the most aggressive guys in the sport,” he said.
“Gaethje destroys all guys with leg kicks and power in both hands.
“Max is regarded as many to be the best boxer in the UFC and has made many top-10 guys look like they don’t even belong there with them.
“Two of the all-time greats in their division and this fight will be five rounds for the BMF title.”
