Liverpool have been dealt a setback just before their Carabao Cup semi-final as Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a knee injury.
The Reds will miss the services of their full-back in the upcoming match against Fulham. The medical team at Liverpool is yet to ascertain the full severity of the injury, but he is confirmed to be unavailable for the cup fixture.
Jurgen Klopp's team is set to encounter Bournemouth on January 20, followed by the second leg of their League Cup semi-final four days later. Subsequently, they are scheduled for an FA Cup fourth-round match against either Norwich or Bristol Rovers before their return to Premier League action against Chelsea at the end of the month.
Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders s said: "First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game.
"So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that.
"He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him."
The 25-year-old has featured in 25 games this season, contributing two goals and nine assists for Klopp's team. Apart from the Reds' consecutive 3-1 victories away to Wolves and West Ham, he's played in every available Premier League match.
He's also the third Liverpool full-back to suffer an injury blow. Klopp has already lost both left-backs Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, who are sidelined for an extended period.
To address this issue, the German manager has recently deployed right-footed central defender Joe Gomez on the left side of the back four in their absence. However, considering Gomez typically covers for Alexander-Arnold, Klopp faces a significant defensive dilemma.
