Paris Saint-Germain have secured the signing of defender Lucas Beraldo from São Paulo, as announced by the French club on Monday.
Beraldo, aged 20, finalised a €20 million ($22.1m) deal as reported by ESPN. The club also announced the signing on social media.
Liverpool had been tracking the 20-year-old for several months to reinforce their defensive roster. However, the six-time European Cup and Champions League winners weren't the only ones interested in Beraldo.
Wolves tried to recruit the São Paulo centre-back during the summer without success, while Zenit Saint Petersburg, a prominent Russian team, had previously seen a substantial offer turned down. Bayern Munich had also expressed interest.
Leicester City, leading the Championship and seemingly on course for a swift return to the Premier League, had also pursued Beraldo.
Nevertheless, PSG pipped all competitors to secure the Brazil U20 international, adding depth to head coach Luis Enrique's defensive choices as they aim for a third consecutive Ligue 1 title.
Beraldo has inked a five-year contract and will don the No. 35 shirt for his new club.
"I'm really happy to be joining a club as ambitious as Paris Saint-Germain. This is an important step in my career and one that will help me to move forward. I can't wait to get to know my new teammates and to take my first steps in this shirt," Beraldo said in a statement.
PSG face Toulouse in the final of the Trophée des Champions on Wednesday and have been drawn against Real Sociedad in the Champions League round of 16.
