Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp said he was unbothered by the prospect of a potential ban on Manchester City’s Erling Haaland following his burst up on referee Simon Hooper during the 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
Klopp was asked if he would hope for the same punishment to Haaland as his player Virgil Van Dijk following the Dutchman's send-off against Newcastle United earlier this season, to which the German said he is unconcerned about it.
Van Dijk was handed a £100,000 fine and an extra game ban for his reaction to being dismissed at St James’ Park in August and there have been strong speculations and questions if the Norwegian would be given the same penalty.
Klopp remained uninterested in seeing the Premier League’s (PL) top scorer banned even though it would benefit Liverpool.
"I don’t know," Klopp said. "In most of the years the thing Virgil said no one would have recognised. I have no idea exactly what Haaland said, I didn’t follow it.
"It is like it is. To be honest I didn’t think for a second about it, when I heard about it, it wasn’t ‘oh we get it, they don’t.’ As long as you are not emotionally involved it is much easier to accept it, in the heat of the moment it is more difficult. They would have probably thought about it and I have no opinion on the outcome."
Liverpool are currently ranked second on the PL points table with 31 points from 14 matches and they are followed closely by Pep Guardiola’s Man City who are just a point behind the Reds with as many games played.
Haaland is Guardiola’s most important troop and him being the PL top-scorer with 14 goals to his name is a testament to it. The Norwegian’s absence could cast serious trouble for Man City as he is their primary goal scorer.
