The FC Barcelona team from 2014 to 2016 stood as a masterpiece in itself. The trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, commonly referred to as MSN, didn’t hesitate to dismantle even the most formidable defences. Yet, Suarez’s performance in 2015–2016 stood out significantly, despite the presence of two other primary goal scorers.
The Uruguayan explained how his strike partners were pivotal in surpassing the prime Cristiano Ronaldo.
Luis Suarez joined FC Barcelona following a successful stint at Liverpool. While he scored some spectacular goals against various teams, major trophies eluded him there. However, Barcelona offered him more than just silverware. He found companions who supported him whenever he needed them.
The Uruguayan had an outstanding 2015–2016 season, netting 40 goals and surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the 2016 Golden Boot. Acknowledging Messi and Neymar's contributions.
“In the second year, the two of them (Neymar and Messi) helped me get the Golden Boot. I remember that Leo played for Ney, and Ney was in front of the goalkeeper looking to see if I arrived because I was fighting with Cristiano Ronaldo to be the top scorer. Then he was like, ‘Here, do it yourself’. I won thanks to them," Suaraz revealed as per GOAL.
Ronaldo had an exceptional season, netting 35 goals and providing 11 assists in La Liga. The revered Portuguese player also secured victories in both the UEFA Champions League and Euro within the same year. However, despite Messi and Neymar's assistance, Luis Suarez outshone in terms of goal-scoring. The trio had firmly established themselves as one of European soccer's most formidable attacking forces.
Despite operating under the shadow of Messi, both the lethal striker and the Brazilian made significant impacts. Following Messi, Luis Suarez stood as one of Europe's top contributors to goal assists. Throughout his tenure at Barcelona, he facilitated goals 195 times. Nevertheless, in 2016, the Uruguayan ranked fourth in the Ballon d’Or as CR7 claimed the award despite missing out on the Golden Boot.
In 2023, Luis Suarez joined Gremio, a move that caught the Brazilian team off guard. He tallied 24 goals in 52 matches and clinched two regional competitions. After initially agreeing to a two-year contract, he opted to cut short his tenure, citing injury woes.
Despite uncertainties about his fitness, there are still expectations for the player to reunite with Lionel Messi, along with former teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, at Inter Miami.
