Daniil Medvedev shared his off-season plans as his 2023 tennis season ended with a semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner at ATP Finals in Turin saying that he is going to take a trip to islands for the first time in the last year.

Medvedev, the world no.3, clinched five titles in 2023 — Rotterdam Open, Qatar Open, Dubai Tennis Championship, Miami Open and Italian Open — and also featured in the final of the Indian Wells Masters and US Open where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic respectively.

However, after a long and hectic season, Medvedev has now confirmed that he is going to take a long break to spend time with his family and won’t play any tournament before the Australian Open next year.

“Every year was different,” Medvedev said of his last few off-seasons. “To be honest, I haven't been on like off-season vacation as some players. You never know. One time I had Davis Cup. Last year we had a small baby, so... I was straightaway back to the duties.”

“This year we're going to go with my wife to the islands. First time in maybe four, five years. She doesn't like it too much there because there is not much to do. But for me, that's perfect after a hectic season. I love it.”

A two-time Australian Open finalist, in 2021 and 2022, Medvedev revealed that he wouldn’t play any tournament before the next Grand Slam and will his first match on return would be in Australia.

“I'm probably going to play only Australian Open,” Medvedev said. “Going to try like this to have more of a vacation time than usual and start with a Slam straightaway, which is going to be new for me. But let's see.”

Overall, Medvedev has featured in Grand Slam finals five times with his most appearances coming in the US Open, which he also won in 2021 beating Djokovic.

After a successful 2023 season, the Russian would be eyeing to win his first Australian Open after losing two finals.
