Indian pacer Mohammed Shami revealed the reason behind his unmatched success in the ICC World Cup 2023 as the right-handed pacer has been one of the key reasons behind the Blues march to the tournament's final.
Shami, 33, is the top-wicket taker of the World Cup with 23 scalps to his name in just six innings. He took seven wickets in the tournament's semi-final against New Zealand and proved his importance once again.
The right-handed pacer opened up on the reason behind his success and revealed that he looks at the situation and also builds up a plan if the ball isn't swinging.
"I always look at what the situation is, how the pitch and the ball are behaving and if the ball is swinging or not," Shami told Star Sports.
"And, if the ball is not swinging, I try and bowl stump to stump while trying to land it in a zone where the ball can catch an edge of the batters (when they) are driving."
It must be noted that Shami wasn't part of India's initial playing XI as he missed the first four matches and only got a chance after all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.
Former Indian coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri also believes that Shami will be India's key to glory in the World Cup final against the mighty Aussies.
"The very first ball, if he (Shami) is sprinting in, (I wish) good luck to the batters. The seam presentation, the way the ball lands... What he has done in this World Cup is to consistently hit the right lengths," he said during an event in Chennai on Friday.
"Even in Mumbai, he was troubling the batsmen with his skills. Not many got the ball to move around, but he got to do it and got the outside edges," added Shastri.
Australia, looking for their sixth World Cup, are set to lock horns with India, who eye their first ICC trophy since 2013, in the much-anticipated final on November 19 in Ahmedabad where more than 100,000 spectators are expected to watch the showdown between two powerhouses
