Australia's Adam Zampa is not considering his performance against Sri Lanka in Monday's World Cup 2023 encounter as one of his finest, but he acknowledged its significance as a leg spinner.
Suffering from consecutive defeats, the five-time champions Australia climbed from the bottom of the points table following their five-wicket triumph against the 1996 champions, Sri Lanka.
This much-needed victory was orchestrated by their bowlers, who dismissed Sri Lanka for 209 within 44 overs, and their batters finished the chase with nearly 15 overs to spare.
Zampa secured a remarkable 4-47, earning him the player-of-the-match accolade, and he proceeded to disclose his unease while bowling.
"I didn't feel great. I have had trouble with back spasms over the past couple of days so it was just about trying to get through that one," the 31-year-old said after the Sri Lanka game.
"I've had days where I've felt better and bowled better. Personally, I know I'm not at my best, but it's nice to be on this end of the result tonight," he added.
Zampa failed to take any wickets against India, conceding 70 runs in his 10 overs for the solitary dismissal of Rassie van der Dussen in the match against South Africa. The spinner expressed that he made no alterations to his approach when facing Sri Lanka.
"I've just got to try and keep my wicket-taking attitude because that's what works for me, regardless of whether I am going for runs or not.
"We've got a tough game coming up next against Pakistan but I am going to try and keep things the same for me."
It must be noted that Pakistan and Australia will face each other on October 20 in Bengaluru.
