Pakistan captain Babar Azam highlighted the importance of toss ahead of the high-voltage clash against India in Ahmedabad on Saturday during the ICC World Cup 2023.
The prolific batter believes that dew will be factor during the match tomorrow.
“Considering all the matches that have taken place so far, toss has been vital. Under the lights, the pitch behaves really well. There was dew as well last night. We will also ask the umpires about whether they will spray the outfield for dew,” Azam said during a press conference on Friday.
Azam also confident about his side’s chances against India.
“We have defeated India in the past and we are confident about doing it again,” he said. “I don’t think future of captaincy depends on winning or losing against India. I have not been given captaincy just for this match.”
Azam, who has only scored a total of 15 runs in the first two matches of the World Cup, is also eager to do well against Pakistan’s traditional rivals.
“I was not able to perform in accordance with expectations, so far, in the World Cup but I’m hopeful that there will be improvement in my performance against India,” he said.
The right-hander was also hopeful about getting some support at the stadium from the fans in Ahmedabad.
“We got support in Hyderabad and are hopeful that the crowd will back us in Ahmedabad as well. However, it would have been better for us if Pakistan fans were allowed to travel to India,” he said.
India and Pakistan won their first two matches in the mega event and are currently place at third and fourth position on the points table, respectively.
