Paris Saint Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique publicly addressed the ongoing stand-off between the club and star striker Kylian Mbappe on Friday in Paris.
The manager wants both parties to reach an agreement as they did in the past.
“This is a situation which has existed before. A positive solution was found with the club before I arrived,” Enrique said about Mbappe’s contract saga last summer.
“I hope the club and the player find an agreement, let me remind you that the philosophy of the club goes above everything.”
Too much uncertainty is surrounding the French club, with Messi already gone and the future of Marco Veratti and Neymar Jr. is still not clear as both players want to leave the club to take on a new challenge.
On the other hand, Mbappe’s situation seems like a dead-end to many because it has been stalling ever since the player sent his club a letter in July stating that he will not stay at the club beyond 2024.
PSG kick off their league campaign on Saturday (August 12) against Lorient at Parc de Princes and Mbappe is not expected to be a part of the squad.
Enrique also confirmed that Ousmane Dembele is 99% a PSG player.
"Dembele is not yet a PSG player legally, 100 percent no, but 99 percent. There is still one paragraph left in the contract.”
PSG have made up their mind that they want to sell Mbappe this summer as the footballer has made it clear that he will not renew till 2025.
To push him out of the club, the French club has already gone to extremes. Last month, Mbappe was excluded from the club’s squad for their Asian pre-season tour.
PSG did not only exclude Mbappe from the pre-season squad, they also decided to send him to train with discarded footballers who are no longer part of the project.
Those players include Julian Draxler, Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Paredes, Abdou Diallo and Colin Dagba.
Amidst all the chaos, Madrid — who have been after Mbappe since 2018 — are yet to make a move.
