Germany have been knocked out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after a 1-1 draw against South Korea at the Sun Corp Stadium, Australia, on Thursday.
Germany needed a victory to qualify for the round of 16. Although, they would have had the same points after the win but their positive goal-difference of five could’ve secured their place in the Round of 16.
South Korea showed excellent resilience in front of Germany’s energetic attacks as the Germans did not only have 71% possession but they also attempted 14 shots.
Group stage matches have now been completed of the Women’s World Cup and 16 teams will compete in the Round of 16 to make it to the quarter-finals.
The group stages were full of surprises as we have seen big names like Brazil, hosts New Zealand, Canada, and Germany not qualifying while underdogs like Jamaica, and Morocco — who are playing their first-ever Women's World Cup — did.
