English pacer Stuart Broad announced on Saturday that he will retire from international cricket after the fifth Ashes Test.

The announcement came in a post-match interview at the conclusion of day three’s play.

The pacer recently completed 600 Test wickets and also became the third-highest wicket-taker in Ashes history with 150 wickets, only behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

The 37-year-old made his international debut in a T20 match against Pakistan at Bristol on August 28, 2006.

He has been one of the key members of the English team since his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2007.

"Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket," Broad told Sky Sports Cricket at the close of play on day three. "It's been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have.

"I'm loving cricket as much as I ever have, it's been a wonderful series to be a part of and I've always wanted to finish at the top.

"This series feels like it has been the most wonderful and entertaining to be a part of."

The 37-year-old also told Sky that he had been thinking of announcing his retirement for a long time but never really got the right opportunity to announce it. He informed his teammates in the dressing room about his decision.

"I thought a lot about it and even up to last night I wasn't sure, but once I went to Stokesy's room and told him, I felt really happy and content with everything I've achieved in the game," Broad said.

"Ultimately, the decision came down to... I know I wanted to leave the game loving cricket and my lasting memory being of a really enjoyable changing room.

"It feels like my changing room and I wanted to walk away playing with a group of players I love to bits."

For now, his entire focus and commitment is on the last Ashes Test where the pacer is going to give his all to make sure his team does not end up on the losing side of this quest.

The pacer represented England in 167 matches taking 600 wickets in his legendary Test career with his career best of 8-15 against Australia in 2015.

He did not only contribute in bowling, but the 37-year-old also scored 3,656 runs in his Test career with a career-best of 169 which came against Pakistan in 2010.

Broad, 37, also served his country in 121 ODIs and 56 T20Is and took 243 wickets in the process. His career-best figure of 5-23 in ODIs was against South Africa in 2008.
