Indian batter Virat Kohli scored his 76th international hundred on the second day of the second Test against West Indies in Port of Spain on Friday.
Kohli, 34, is showing no sign of stopping and still going strong in his 15th year of playing cricket. With his latest Test century, he also equalled the legendary Don Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries.
The Indian batter also became the first player ever to score a century in his 500th international match.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Kohli’s milestone
Kohli, who resumed on 87 on day two, started his inning slowly, taking 21 balls to score his first run as he was very watchful. But he took his time and played carefully throughout his knock.
He completed his century with his trademark cover-drive shot to West Indies’ pacer Shannon Gabriel.
The 34-year-old was run out after a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja. The batter departed for the pavilion after scoring 121 runs with 11 boundaries.
The century was more special for Kohli because it was his first overseas Test century in almost five years. The 34-year-old made four away hundreds in 2018 and had to wait for a century since then.
It was also his second century in the Caribbean Islands with his first converted into a double hundred back in 2016 in North Sound.
With his 29th Test ton, Kohli became the player with the third-most hundreds among active players, only behind Joe Root (30) and Steve Smith (32).
It must be noted that Kohli's 76 centuries in international cricket in his 15-year-long career consist of 46 ODIs, 29 Tests, and One T20I century.
Earlier in the first Test, the 34-year-old was in very fine touch and was just 24 runs short of his well-deserved hundred as he fell for 76.
India are 1-0 up in the Test series and can have a great start to their World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 campaign by winning this Test.
