Pakistani sprinter Mueed Baloch has failed to qualify for the semi-final of 400m men's event in the ongoing 25th Asian Athletics Championship in Thailand.
On day one of the event, Mueed aka Baloch Bolt ran among 28 sprinters in first round of 400m. Karachi-born sprinter clocked 48.18s to finish 22nd. He fell short of his best time which is 46.73s.
The last sprinter to qualify for the semi-final clocked 47.52s. Mueed will now compete in 200m.
Asian champions will last on July 16. Apart from Mueed, Shajjar Abbas will compete in 100m and 200m. He will be in action in 100m race tomorrow.
Javelin thrower Yasir Sultan is also a part of Pakistan's contingent. In women's 200m, Esha Imran will represent Pakistan.
All the players were selected after trials which took place in Lahore.
Pakistan Army's Uzair Rehman, who bagged a gold medal in the recently concluded 34th National Games, didn't appear in the trials. National Games gold medalist Naeem Akhtar also didn't come for the trials.
In men's 400m at National Games, Uzair completed the race in 46.7s to bag gold whereas Mueed clocked 46.8s to win the Silver medal. Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)'s Asad Chatta bagged Bronze.
