Australian skipper Pat Cummins scored match-winning runs for his team as they won first Ashes Test at Edgbaston on Tuesday.

In front of a jam-packed stadium, Cummins proved to be a savior for the Aussies and helped them countered 'Bazball Formula' to win the first Test by two wickets.

Cummins' power-packed show saw four boundaries and two sixes as he finished not-out for 44 off 73 balls. His mindboggling innings notched 1-0 lead for the visitors in five-match series.

The Australian skipper stunned cricket world with a successful run-chase.

While chasing the target of 281 runs, Australia were 54 runs short to the target with just two wickets in hands when their skipper Cummins walked in to bat. He alongside Nathan Lyon (16*) scored match-winning partnership of 55 runs. They both scored 50 runs together in twilight phase of the fifth day to register first win in the series.

Cummins stood like a rock-solid mountain and helped his team win the Test after taking them out from a difficult stage. Before Cummins' arrival, there was only one percent chance of winning for Australia.

Usman Khawaja was named player of the match for his heroics in both the first and the second innings. He scored a remarkable knock of 141 runs in the first innings and helped the Aussies avoid a collapse. In the second innings, he was once again top scored with 65 off 197.

Australia started the final day of the first Ashes Test with 174 more runs to score. Scott Boland and Khawaja resumed the overnight score.

Boland was soon taken out by Stuart Broad, who in the last session of day four, removed two of Australia’s powerhouses - Marnus Labuschagne, the number one player in Test rankings, and 'Mr. reliable' Steve Smith for just 13 and six runs respectively.

Travis Head fell prey to Moeen Ali as he walked back to the pavilion after scoring 14 off 24 while Cameroon Green was bowled by Ollie Robinson. Alex Carey could not score more than 20 runs after losing his wicket to Joe Root.
