Indian skipper Rohit Sharma sparked controversy after his team lost ICC Test Championship final by 209 runs against Australia at The Oval last Sunday.

"Why after the IPL final? Why cannot it be March? June is not the only month we should play the final," said Sharma who scored just 58 runs during the final.

"It can be played any time of the year and anywhere in the world, not just in England, it can be played anywhere in the world.

"A three-match series would be nice but it's about finding that window, where it can fit in. An event like this you work hard for two years and then you only have one shot at it," he added.

His statement was opposed by not only Indian fans but also former cricketers.

After Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, who coached India till 2021, also responded to Sharma's statement.

"Let's be realistic here. You're not going to get those 20 days. And if that's the case then you've got to miss IPL," Shastri said. "So, the choice is yours and it's up to the establishment as well. I'm sure the BCCI will review this in the future, if a World Test Championship [final] is going to come after an IPL every time in the month of June, then for that season, if your team qualifies for the final, there should be certain clauses put to franchises," he added.

It must be noted here that IPL's window has been increased to more than two months. As many as 10 teams compete in the tournament. This year, Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, lifted the trophy for the fifth time.
