Kenneth Egano passed away after sustaining injuries during his fight on Manny Pacquiao's 'Blow by Blow' boxing event on Saturday night.
The 22-year-old defeated Jason Facularin in an eight-round fight in Cavite, Philippines, but collapsed in the ring before he was announced as the winner.
Egano was immediately rushed to the hospital from the arena, where he went into coma due to brain hemorrhage.
Egano (7-1, 3 KOs) was featuring in only his eighth professional fight.
Pacquiao reportedly told his staff to ensure Egano received all the medical attention he required while also covering all the costs related to it.
"There is nothing more precious than human life,” Pacquiao was quoted as saying.
However, four days later, Egano passed away. The news was officially revealed on social media by the Games and Amusements Board - the body which looks after professional sports in the Philippines.
"The entire Games and Amusements Board (GAB) agency mourns the passing of professional boxer Kenneth Egano,” Games and Amusements Board said in a statement.
"Our condolences to Kenneth's family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace."
Facularin also reacted to the unfortunate incident by stating: “I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best. Why did it happen to us? Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.”
