Tottenham Hotspurs’ caretaker manager Ryan Mason believes that everyone in the squad should follow the English striker Harry Kane’s “elite” mindset.

Kane scored the only goal as Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday in the Premier League (PL).

"Naturally we'll all talk about Harry's goals and Harry when he plays games of football he will continue to score goals. We know that,” said Mason.

"But also that elite mindset, that example that he sets every day in and around the place, it's great to be around. Because when you have people like that they inspire you to be better and we appreciate Harry, we value him so much at this football club," he added.

Kane moved ahead of the Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney with his 209th goal in the league on Saturday which made him the player with second most goals in competition’s history, only behind Alan Shearer who stands tall with 260 PL goals.

"Harry is certainly one player that is focused every game to be the best version of himself every time he is out on that football pitch, whether it's the training ground or on match day, so hopefully Harry continues to play and I'm sure he'll continue to score goals,” said the 31-year-old interim manager.

Upon asking if Kane will be able to break Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the PL, he said: "I don't really like speaking too much about the future because from personal experience I know that you can't really plan too much far ahead in football terms and in life, and you've got to be in the moment.”

It must be noted that Tottenham have sacked two managers this season, Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini, as they are struggling to perform in the PL. On Saturday, they won their first game after losing four consecutive PL matches.

They are currently ranked number six in the league table with 12 losses in 35 matches this season. They were also knocked out by Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA cup.
