Mumbai Indians have finished at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table after losing by 18 runs to Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede stadium
Hardik Pandya and his side managed 8 points only and this is for the second time in IPL history, they ended up on the last of the table.
Meanwhile, LSG moved to sixth but are now out of contention of finishing in the final four due to negative net run-rate.
IPL 2024 Points Table
Assisted by a 109-run partnership between skipper KL Rahul (55 off 41 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (75 off 29 balls), LSG posted an impressive 214 for 6. The visitors then struck at regular intervals to restrict MI to 196 for 6, despite Rohit Sharma's 68 off 38 deliveries and Naman Dhir's rearguard 62 off 28 balls.
Earlier, Rahul first steadied the innings with Marcus Stoinis (28) after the fall of his opening partner Devdutt Padikkal for a duck, and then forged a century stand with West Indian Pooran, who smashed eight sixes and five boundaries.
Spinner Piyush Chawla (3/29) and Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thusara (3/28) were the most successful bowlers for Mumbai Indians, each claiming three wickets.
It must be noted Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad have qualified for the playoffs and the final spot is up for grabs for Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The IPL giants will lock horns on May 18 and the winner will go through. In case of rain spoiling the party, CSK will qualify due to 15 points.
