Renowned Bollywood actor and the co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta, debunked all the rumours and articles claiming that she offered the captaincy to former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma.
Sharma, a five-time IPL-winning captain, led MI for over 10 years and is the joint-most successful captain in the history of IPL alongside the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, Mahendra Singh (MS) Dhoni.
Zinta bashed the newspaper saying that the articles that are posted online are “baseless” and “fake” as she never made any comments regarding offering Sharma the captaincy or discussing anything of the sort with the right-handed batter.
Taking the matter to her X, formerly Twitter, Zinta wrote that the articles are the “perfect” example of spreading misinformation.
#Fakenews! All these articles are completely fake & baseless. I hold Rohit Sharma in very high regard & am a big fan of his, but I have NEVER DISCUSSED him in any interview nor made this STATEMENT! I also have a lot of respect for Shikhar Dhawan & he being currently injured, makes these articles appear in very poor taste,” Zinta posted on X.
“These articles are a perfect example of how misinformation is picked up without any verification & circulated online. I humbly request all Media to refrain from circulating this & embarrassing all concerned parties All I want to say is that we have a great team currently & our only focus is to win games & make the most out of #IPL2024 Thank you. @PunjabKingsIPL.”
Remember, after the Kings lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 13, Zinta allegedly expressed her desire to have Sharma as her franchise’s skipper.
“I will bet my life to get Rohit Sharma if he comes in the mega auction. We are only missing a captain in our team who brings on some stability and champion mindset,” the Bollywood actor allegedly said.
