Multan Sultans have defeated Quetta Gladiators by 79 runs in the final round stage match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.
With this win, Sultans finished as the table-toppers and will play Qualifier 1 against Peshawar Zalmi on March 14 at the same venue. Meanwhile, Gladiators face Islamabad United in Eliminator on March 15.
Mohammad Rizwan's men didn't let Gladiators batters dominate by taking wickets at regular intervals while defending 186.
David Willey dismissed Jason Roy (3) in the third over with Saud Shakeel (14) getting run out in the same over on the back of Yasir Khan's direct hit.
Skipper Rilee Rossouw's poor PSL 9 continued as he was bowled by Willey on his personal score of 10. Laurie Evans (1) also didn't make any impact.
Khawaja Nafay was demoted down the order, however, he only managed 16. Only Omair Bin Yousuf was the best Gladiators' batter, scoring 37.
Mohammad Wasim Jr (11) tried to play his shots as he carried his form from the last game where he hit six on the last ball to Lahore Qalandars' captain Shaheen Afridi.
Gladiators were eventually bowled out for 106 in the 16th over.
For Sultans, Willey and Usama Mir shared three wickets apiece while Abbas Afridi bagged two wickets.
Earlier, Mohammad Rizwan and Johnson Charles scored splendid half-centuries, propelling Multan Sultans to a substantial 185/4 after being put into bat.
Sultans had a contrasting start to their innings as they lost their opener Yasir Khan (12) in the third over with only 16 runs on the board.
After the early setback, in-form Usman Khan partnered with Mohammad Rizwan in the middle and forged a stabilising partnership.
Their second-wicket alliance yielded 52 runs before Abrar Ahmed dismissed Usman with a swift delivery. Usman scored 21 off 23 deliveries, with three boundaries.
Meanwhile, Rizwan held his ground firmly and formed a strong partnership with Johnson Charles, putting the Sultans in control.
He was the top-scorer for the Sultans with a 47-ball 69, which included one boundary and four sixes.
Meanwhile, Iftikhar Ahmed teamed up with Charles and boosted the Sultans' total with aggressive hitting.
The pair added a rapid 46 runs to the tally before Charles ultimately departed in the final over.
He was a significant contributor to the Sultans' runs with 53 off 29 deliveries, comprising six boundaries and three sixes.
On the other hand, Iftikhar carried his bat throughout the innings with an unbeaten 20 off eight deliveries, including two boundaries and a six.
