Pakistan fans were baffled after in-form pacer Aamer Jamal wasn't given the ball early in the second innings of the third Test against Australia in Sydney.
Pakistan had only set a modest target of 130 runs and needed early wickets to get back in the match but captain Shan Masood decided against turning to his star bowler.
Jamal was finally brought into the attack after 19 overs with Australia needing just 33 more runs to win.
The right-armer is the second highest wicket-taker during the series with 18 scalps. Only Australia captain Pat Cummins is ahead of Jamal with 19 wickets.
Pakistan were dismissed for 115 in their second innings on Saturday.
Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal put on 42 precious runs for the eighth wicket before Rizwan fell to a leg slip catch off Nathan Lyon for 28.
Jamal followed shortly afterwards for 18 caught in the deep off Pat Cummins.
The stage is set for David Warner to bat for the last time in his 112th and farewell Test as Australia go after the runs for victory on the fourth day.
Courtesy of Jamal's six for 69, Pakistan began their second innings yesterday with a slim 14-run lead after the Kangaroos were bowled out at 299.
However, the hosts managed to bounce back courtesy of their pace attack as Josh Hazlewood (4-16) tipped the scales towards the home side with three wickets in the penultimate over of the day to leave Pakistan reeling on 68-7 with a lead of 82 runs.
Pakistan are looking to end a losing streak of 16 Tests in Australia since their last win in 1995.
Australia have already wrapped up the series after victories in the first two Tests in Perth and Melbourne.
