All 10 captains of the participating teams were present for a special media event in Ahmedabad on Wednesday ahead of the ICC World Cup opener which will be played between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 5.
Among all the captains like Pakistan’s Babar Azam, India’s Rohit Sharma, England’s Jos Buttler, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Australia’s Pat Cummins, it was South Africa’s Temba Bavuma who became the talk of the town and that didn't happen not due to a cricketing reason.
During the captain’s meeting, a picture of the Proteas skipper sleeping emerged which was all over social media in a matter of hours.
But, in reply to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bavuma clarified that he was not sleeping and put the blame on the camera angle instead.
"I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping," Bavuma tweeted in response to an account that posted a picture of him sleeping.
Even though Bavuma denied that he was not sleeping, fans on social media gave their verdict and shared comical posts with the 33-year-old’s pictures.
Some fans also ended up criticising the event for focusing only on Pakistan and India as captains from eight more teams were sitting there.
Here is how cricket fans on X reacted
It must be noted that the Proteas will begin their World Cup campaign on a high note after defeating Australia 3-2 in a five-match One Day International (ODI) series which they played at home.
