After stripping him of the captaincy a month ago, Erik ten Hag is now forced to count on Harry Maguire following the injury of centre-back Raphael Varane.
The French centre-back got injured in United's 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and is now set to miss one month of action.
“Raphael Varane will be missing from the team when Manchester United face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday due to injury," the club said in an official statement.
“The France international came off at half-time in our 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday due to the complaint, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.”
Manchester United have also informed the English defender that he will not be leaving the club this summer.
After being stripped of the captaincy, Maguire decided to leave the club as he was not in Ten Hag's plans but the recent unfortunate events have changed things for him.
According to The Guardian, he had offers from many clubs, notably from West Ham United wanted to acquire the footballer's services but the move has now been blocked by the Manchester club.
However, this news may not be very welcoming for the defender as the reason he wanted to leave United was to get regular playing time and now, once Varane returns from his injury, he will once again sit on the bench.
But despite his problems with Ten Hag, he is trusted by England's manager Gareth Southgate and will get minutes in the upcoming international break.
Varane is the latest edition to United's growing injury and the troubles for Ten Hag seem to be only growing with every match played.
New signing Mason Mount and Luka Shaw are already out for a time period and the latter's injury has forced the Red Devils to buy a new left-back, their main target is Chelsea's defender Marc Cucurella.
