Chelsea's striker Sam Kerr, who plays for Australia, and the Spanish duo of Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona) and Olga Carmona (Real Madrid) are the nominees for the 2022-23 Women's Player of the Year award, UEFA confirmed on Friday.
Bonmati and Carmona were key to Spain's FIFA Women's World Cup triumph last week against England while Kerr performed brilliantly with Chelsea last season.
Carmona scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute and became the second-youngest player of 23 years and 69 days to score in both the semi-final and final of a single edition of a FIFA Women's World Cup tournament, behind only the United States’ Alex Morgan in 2011 (22y 15d).
Bonmati was awarded the Golden Ball as she was the glue to Spain's midfield and helped La Roja win the games while dominating with the ball. She also scored three goals and provided two assists.
Other than her heroics at the World Cup, she also a spectacular season with Barcelona where she won the Spanish League, UEFA Women's Champions League, and Spanish Super Cup.
Meanwhile, Kerr, who missed the group-stages part in the World Cup due to injuries, scored 29 goals across all competitions last season and guided Chelsea to their fourth successive FA Women's Super League title and the Women's FA Cup.
She also played in the World Cup semi-final with Australia where she scored the only goal in a 3-1 defeat against England.
UEFA also announced the nominees for Women's Coach of the Year.
Barcelona's Jonatan Giraldez, who led Barca Femeni to a treble, Spain's Jorge Vilda, a World Cup-winning coach, and England's Sarina Wiegman are the three final candidates.
The winners will be announced on August 31 along with the men's player and coach of the year where the UEFA Champions League 2023-24 group stage draws will also take place.
