The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubalies has confirmed that he is not to resign from his position following the controversy after the Women's World Cup final between Spain and England.
Rubiales has been under constant criticism since he kissed Spain's striker Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during the medal distribution ceremony.
The Spanish FA boss opened up on this incident for the second time on Friday after apologising for his actions a day after the final.
"The desire I could have for that kiss to Jenni was exactly the same as I could have kissing my daughters. No more, no less," Rubiales said on kissing Hermoso.
“The kiss was consented. She (Jenni) was the one who lifted me up and brought me closer to her body. And I said to her: 'a little bit?' and she said, 'okay',” he added.
The Spanish FA boss further stated that he is going to take strong action against all the people who said inappropriate things about him following the incident.
“Ms. Yolanda Díaz, Ms. Montero, Ms. Belarra, Mr. Echenique have referred (to the kiss) with the words like 'assault.’ I am going to take action against these people.
"I will NOT resign, I will not resign, I will not resign."
It must be noted that on Thursday (August 24), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has confirmed that it is opening disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee informed Luis Rubiales, President of the Spanish Football Association, today that it is opening disciplinary proceedings against him based on the events that occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ on 20 August 2023,” FIFA said in an official statement
Rubiales has already been called out by Spain's sports minister Miquel Iceta, government minister Irene Montero and caretaker Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez for his actions.
On the other hand, Hermoso said that "exemplary measures" should be taken against Rubiales.
This was not the first time Rubiales did something that was way out of line, he is said to have harassed and humiliated his female colleague in the past.
