As Pakistan celebrates its 77th Independence Day on August 14 (today), the national athletes also prayed for country's prosperity.

Pakistan cricket team's captain Babar Azam wrote, "Alhamdulillah for our independent identity. May Almighty bless our beloved homeland."

Other cricketers including Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Hassan Ali, Umar Akmal and Shaheen Shah Afridi also posted on X.

Squash star Noorena Shams, in a long post on X, wished for getting fully independent.

"Happy independence day everyone. I hope we become independent of everything that is bringing this nation down. May our characters & souls become independent of anything that hinders our growth as an individual. May we be independent of the thought that other’s success is our failure. May we be independent of the thought that only wealth defines our integrity, dignity & place in this society. May we be independent of the modern slavery in the name of religion, cast, power, culture, gender & ethnicity," she wrote.

Pakistan's world wrestling icon Inam Butt also wished happy Independence Day.

Olympian weightlifter Talha Talib also wished Independence Day.

President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on the occasion of 77th Independence Day.

The day commenced with special prayers for the country's prosperity and unity, an apt prayer given the turmoil on the political and economic fronts.

Moreover, a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals were made as a tribute to the country that has weathered many a storm.
