Afridi is representing Toronto Nationals in the tournament

Pakistan's former international cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi called an on-field umpire Gulab Jamun during a match in the ongoing Global T20 Canada.

Afridi, who is representing Toronto Nationals in the tournament, reacted to the umpire's decision off his bowling during their match against Vancouver Knights on Wednesday.

Canada-based umpire Arnold Maddela signaled wide on a leg-side delivery which Afridi resisted.

"Why?" he asked the umpire immediately. On his way back to his bowling mark, he said: "Gulab Jamun yeah pad se laga hai [Gulab Jamun it hit the pad]."

The video of his interaction with the umpire went viral on social media.

The Pakistani cricketer might face issues for his comments on the umpire. So far, no official comment on this has been made by the league management.

Afridi has so far played four matches in the league, scoring 62 runs and taking four wickets.

Earlier in 2019, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed had served a four-match ban due to passing racist comments on South African cricketer Andile Phehlukwayo.

Sarfraz met Phehlukwayo after the matter and apologised for his remarks, which included the Urdu word “kaale”, meaning “black”.

Then-captain also attended an education programme relating to the offence.
