New Zealand were knocked out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 0-0 stalemate with Switzerland on Sunday.
The co-hosts went out of the tournament on goal difference but the Europeans are through to the last 16 as Group A winners.
New Zealand became the first Women's World Cup hosts to exit in the group stage.
Norway's convincing 6-0 win over the Philippines in the other group game in Auckland put them level on four points with New Zealand but second on goal difference.
New Zealand stunned Norway in their opening match before losing to the Philippines in their second.
New Zealand gave it their all during the match but could not find the goal despite being backed by a near-capacity crowd of 25,947 at the indoor Dunedin Stadium.
Switzerland and Norway will lock horns with either Spain or Japan, who play their Group C decider on Monday, in the round of 16.
The ninth edition of the event will include 64 matches and is the first FIFA Women's World Cup to have two host nations — New Zealand and Australia.
The round-robin format is being used in the group stage when each of the 32 teams play three matches each. The top two in each group will progress to the round of 16. The knockout rounds begin on August 5 and the final will take place on Sunday, August 20 at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
