India name Test, ODI squads for West Indies tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the two-match Test series and the three-match ODI series during the tour of West Indies in July and August on Friday.

After losing the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval, India have dropped veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara from the squad, with uncapped batters Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad being selected.

Jaiswal and Gaikwad impressed in the IPL while opening the batting for Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings respectively.

Pacers Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini have also been included in the squad, with Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav sitting out.

Ajinkya Rahane has also been named the vice-captain of the squad with Rohit Sharma continuing as captain.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is yet to recover from his back injury and will remain out of action.

A lot of the regulars are also part of the ODI squad, with Gaikwad included in the white ball setup as well. There is also a recall for Sanju Samsom, with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out with injuries.

In the pace department, Mukesh Kumar has been selected in the limited-overs squad, with Umran Malik, Jaydev Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj being among the other players who got the nod.

Four spin-bowling options, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, all part of the ODI squad.

Rohit Sharma will captain the ODI side, with Hardik Pandya named as the vice-captain.

The Test series will start on 12 in Dominica and end on July 24 in Trinidad. The three-match series will be held between July 27 to August 1.

India are yet to name their squad for the T20I series.
