Real Madrid have announced the signing of the Spanish striker Joselu on Monday.

The 34-year-old has joined Los Blancos on loan for one year with an option to buy at the end of his current contract.

“Real Madrid C. F. and the R. C. D. Espanyol de Barcelona have agreed to the transfer of the player Joselu, who is linked to the club during the next season, with an option to buy at the end of it,” the club said in an official statement.

“Joselu arrived at the Real Madrid youth academy at the age of 20 and played two seasons at Castilla. He debuted with the first Real Madrid team in 2011.

"On Tuesday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. in Ciudad Real Madrid, the presentation of Joselu as a new Real Madrid player will take place.”

Playing for Espanyol in the previous La Liga season, Joselu scored 16 goals in 34 league games where five of his goals came against Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Spaniard helped the Spanish national team win the UEFA Nations League on Sunday (June 18) as he scored the first penalty in the penalty shoot-out which Spain won 5-3, thanks to the two penalties saved by goalkeeper Unai Simon.

He also scored a later winner against Italy in the semi-final of the Nations League on Thursday (June 15) to secure a place in the final for his nation.

It must be noted that Joselu played two matches for Madrid's first team in 2011/12 where he scored two goals in just 18 minutes.

The Whites have already announced the signings of Fran Garcia, Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham since the start of this month.

Garcia was bought from Rayo Vallecano for €3m, Brahim was brought back from his three-year loan spell at AC Milan while Bellingham was bought for a record fee of €103m from the German club Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham also became the second most expensive signing in Madrid’s history, only behind Eden Hazard who was bought for €115m from Chelsea in 2019 while Gareth Bale (€101m), Cristiano Ronaldo (€94m) and Aurelien Tchouameni (€80m) are the remaining most expensive players in Los Blancos’ history.
