Fans at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad targeted former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is the global mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), during the 58th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 16.
The situation during the match took an ugly turn when the umpire gave a controversial no-ball from Avesh Khan (Sunrisers Hyderabad) to Heinrich Klaasen (LSG). The controversial call sparked outrage on the ground and fans targeted LSG's dugout where Gambhir was sitting.
Fans threw nuts and bolts at LSG dugout and chanted 'Kohli, Kohli' at Gambhir following their heated altercation earlier in this season.
The match was stopped for a while and security in the ground had to intervene in the matter.
It must be noted here that Virat Kohli and Gambhir were fined 100 percent of their match fees after their altercation during the ongoing 16th IPL.
Heated words were exchanged between LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and Kohli while the two teams were shaking hands after the match. This was followed by a heated altercation between Gambhir and Kohli, after the former had pulled away his team’s opener Kyle Mayers from a chat with Kohli. With things getting out of hands, spinner Amit Mishra was forced to step in and separate the duo.
Naveen was also fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the tournament’s code of conduct.
