Former Indian captain Virat Kohli says that breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries would be an “emotional moment” for him.
Tendulkar, also known as 'Little Master', scored 49 centuries in 452 innings. Kohli already has 46 ODI centuries in 265 innings.
One of the best batters of the current era, Kohli, when asked about how would he feel about reaching the milestone, was very quick to respond with, “It will be a very emotional moment for me”.
The Indian batsman also talked about his childhood memories of playing cricket with older boys and highlighting the importance of sports.
“Sports teaches you some values of life, discipline and planning. It opens up your side, making you a productive person. No matter which profession you are in, the value of playing sport is immense,” he said.
“Don’t make them [students] just play sports, teach them. It is important to teach them small details of what it means to play a sport,” Kohli adds as he further recalls the incident that took off the pressure of studies from him when his school’s vice principal advised him to religiously follow cricket,” added Kohli.
It must be noted that Kohli has scored 75 centuries in international cricket in his 15-year-long career. Including 46 ODIs, 28 Tests, and One T20i century.
The former Indian skipper is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 16 where he has scored 420 runs (5th most) in 11 innings with the help of 6 fifties.
The former RCB captain scored 973 runs in the IPL 2016 with an impressive average and strike rate of 81 and 152 respectively where he scored a record four centuries in a single IPL season.
He is the fastest player to score 12,000 ODI runs in 242 innings. A record which was previously held by Tendulkar who achieved the feat in 300 innings.
Also, the fastest player to score 3500 T20 international runs in 96 innings, a record which was previously held by Rohit Sharma who achieved the feat in 126 innings.
